If a traumatic experience feels too overwhelming or too hard to bear, in order to cope, we may end up sending that aspect of ourselves away so we don’t have to deal with or think about the pain associated with it.

Such experiences can cause small soul fragments and other times we can lose large pieces of our soul, so large that we actually feel like a part of us is missing.
